Joaqu\u00edn Romano Velasco, born in 1960, in the Francoist period of exit of the autarchy, driven from the United States, by an expansive policy of the model of capitalism from the alliances with the fascisms. The memory of this stage of childhood and youth is that of feeling the family obligation to leave the villages, in our case a small one in Segovia, to go in search of the progress announced by the cities, mainly the capital Madrid, although in our case the destination was Valladolid. Our generation was the one that lived and believed to be the youth protagonist of the change from dictatorship to democracy, in the years 1977-78. In those years, I studied business economics at the University of Valladolid, and in the mid-1980s I became a professor at this University to teach a new degree in Economics, in whose curriculum I participated defending the contents of public economics and economics of natural resources. Despite being included in a marginal way, their research and teaching have occupied my academic and working life, and have marked my personal life. <\/p>\n
The first two decades at the University were illusionary, as we discovered and described the widespread confusion that the capitalist economy, which promotes individualism through innovation, would free us from the two great dependencies: nature and public organizations. An illusion that vanishes with the beginning of the current century, and the reforms of dismantling public systems, as a price imposed by the policies of the European Union, clearly intertwined with those of economic globalization, visible in the entry of the euro as the single currency in 2002. The professional limitation imposed by the system to contribute to stop the change from my own academic responsibility leads me to start an involvement in different alternative critical initiatives. Since 2003, besides actively participating in organizations such as Ecologistas en Acci\u00f3n, the Asociaci\u00f3n de Econom\u00eda Cr\u00edtica, or modestly collaborating with “La constelaci\u00f3n de los comunes” (The constellation of the commons), which is promoted by Palmar \u00c1lvarez, firstly, I coordinate an interpretation center of rural life in Castilla y Le\u00f3n, dedicated to preserve the memory of rural communities, and denounce the dismantling processes of an order of life in which social values dominated over economic ones. Secondly, at the family level, we initiated the undertaking to revert an industrialized and globalized agricultural space to dedicate it to the organic cultivation of fruit trees for local consumption, called La Huella Verde (The Green Footprint). In these two cases, the main contribution is to energize actions and accompanying educational programs, promoting and personally feeding back environmental and community awareness. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
